What's Up?! / Mi a helyzet?! tesszük fel a kérdést a What's Up?! EthnoConference - Európai néprajzi múzeumok igazgatói konferenciáján. A Néprajzi Múzeum új épületének és kiállításainak szakmai megnyitójával és bemutatásával egybekötött nemzetközi konferencia célja, hogy bemutassa az elmúlt évek változásait, a múzeumi szakma és a néprajzi múzeumok szervezeti, tartalmi, sőt fizikai, építészeti újragondolását, megújulását.

TTöbb mint 20 európai néprajzi múzeum igazgatója számol be arról, hogy náluk „mi a helyzet”. A Budapesten frissen átadott új Néprajzi Múzeum első jelentős eseményén kiderül, milyen trendek befolyásolják a nemzetközi múzeumi világot: mi a helyzet az európai intézményekben, miért érezték és érzik szükségét a szakemberek az átalakításnak, az újradefiniálásnak, mi a néprajzi múzeumok feladata a 21. században és milyen szerepet kell betölteniük a társadalomban.

What's Up?! is the question we ask in What's Up?! EthnoConference for Directors of European Ethnographic Museums. The aim of the international conference, which will be accompanied by the opening and inaugural presentation of the new building and exhibitions of the Museum of Ethnography, is to present the changes that have taken place in recent years, the rethinking and renewal of the museum profession and ethnographic museums in terms of organisation, structure, content and, even more, physical and architectural aspects.

More than 20 directors of European ethnographic museums will speak about ”what’s going on?” or „What's Up?!” in their museums. The first major event of the newly inaugurated Museum of Ethnography in Budapest reveals the trends influencing the international museum world: what is the situation in the European institutions, why professionals have felt and feel the need for restructuring and rethinking, what is the role of an ethnographic museum in the 21st century and what role they should play in society.

Az ebédet a tervek szerint a Néprajzi Múzeum éttermében, a konferencián résztvevők saját költségükön tudják majd megvásárolni és elfogyasztani. Az előzetes létszámkalkuláció miatt, kérjük jelezzék a jelentkezési lapon, hogy mely napokon szeretnének a Néprajzi Múzeumban található étteremben étkezni.

Participation in the conference is free, but registration is required. Registration is possible by sending the completed registration form to toth.krisztina@neprajz.hu. Return deadline: 9 May 2022.

It is planned that lunch will be available at the Museum of Ethnography's restaurant at the conference participants' own expense. In order to calculate the number of participants in advance, please indicate on the registration form the days on which you would like to eat in the restaurant of the Museum of Ethnography.

Néprajzi Múzeum

A budapesti Néprajzi Múzeum egyike Európa legfontosabb szakmúzeumainak. A több mint 200 000 néprajzi tárgy mellett egyedülálló fényképfelvételeket, kéziratokat, fotókat, népzenei- és filmfelvételeket őriz gyűjteményében. A magyar népi kultúra felbecsülhetetlen értékű tárgyi emlékei mellett itt található az ország legnagyobb nemzetközi gyűjteménye és a kortárs kultúra kutatásának is fontos központja.

150 éves a Néprajzi Múzeum

A Néprajzi Múzeum első 150 évét rangja és szakmai elismertsége ellenére jelentős mértékben befolyásolta a megfelelő épületért való folyamatos küzdelem. Ez napjainkban zárult győzelemmel, amikor 2022-ben az intézmény elfoglalhatja új otthonát. Az új Néprajzi Múzeum Budapest egyik legrégebbi parkja, a Városliget kapujában épült fel a Napur Architect tervei alapján. A változatos növényfajokkal beültetett tetőkertet tartó két épületszárny egy 1 kilométer átmérőjű körív mentén emelkedik a környező fák lombozatának magasságába.

A hamarosan nyíló múzeum látványos időszaki kiállítással várja a látogatókat Megérkeztünk címmel, amely a gazdag gyűjtemény keresztmetszeteként mutat be egy különleges válogatást. Ugyancsak az épülettel egy időben nyílik meg több, mint félezer négyzetméteren az interaktív és látványos ZOOM tér is, amely az egyes tárgyakat játékos megközelítések segítségével mutatja be, így egészen egyedi perspektívából tekint a múzeumi gyűjteményre. A föld mélyében elhelyezett, közel 7 ezer négyzetméteres, időszaki és állandó tárlatoknak otthont adó kiállítótér felett könyvesbolt, étterem, könyvtár, adattár, coworking helyiség, látogatóközpont, rendezvényközpont, interaktív ifjúsági múzeum teszi az intézményt a budapesti kulturális élet meghatározó helyszínévé. Különleges eleme az ingyenesen látogatható Kerámiatér, amely a lépcsőzet mentén 40-40 méter hosszan csaknem 4 ezer kerámiát vonultat fel a világ minden tájáról.

Az épület koronája az üveghomlokzat, amelyen körben egy közel félmillió pixelből álló, a múzeum magyar és nemzetközi gyűjteményeiből válogatott néprajzi motívumokon alapuló, raszterszerkezetű fémrács fut végig. A háló a magyar és az egyetemes kultúra szőtteseként nemcsak átöleli, öltözteti az épületet, hanem összegzi a gyűjtemények és a Néprajzi Múzeumban folyó munka 150 évre visszatekintő, a kortárs kultúrában is meghatározó szellemiségét.

Museum of Ethnography

The Museum of Ethnography in Budapest is one of the most important ethnographic museums in Europe. In addition to more than 200 000 ethnographic objects, its collection includes unique photographs, manuscripts, folk music and film recordings. Besides the priceless artefacts of Hungarian folk culture, it also houses the largest international collection in the country and is an important centre for research of contemporary culture.

The Museum of Ethnography is 150 years old

Despite its prestige and professional recognition, the first 150 years of the Museum of Ethnography were significantly influenced by the constant struggle to find a suitable building. Today, this struggle has ended in victory, as the institution will be able to move into its new home in 2022. The new Museum of Ethnography is located at the gateway to one of Budapest's oldest parks, the City Park, and was designed by Napur Architect. The two wings of the building, which support a roof garden planted with a variety of plants, rise along a 1-kilometre diameter arc to the height of the surrounding trees.

The museum is about to open with a spectacular temporary exhibition entitled We have arrived, which presents a special selection of the rich collection as a cross-section. Also opening at the same time as the building is the interactive and spectacular ZOOM space, which covers more than 5,000 square metres and presents each object through a playful approach, offering a unique perspective on the museum's collection. Above the almost 7,000 square metres of exhibition space, which is located underground and houses temporary and permanent exhibitions, a bookstore, restaurant, library, archives, coworking space, visitor centre, event hall and interactive youth museum make the institution a key venue for cultural life in Budapest. A special feature is the Ceramic Space, which is open to the public free of charge and along a 40-40 metre long staircase, displays almost 4,000 ceramics from all over the world.

The crowning feature of the building is the glass frontage, which is encircled by a metal grid of almost half a million pixels, based on ethnographic motifs selected from the museum's Hungarian and international collections. The grid is a tapestry of Hungarian and universal culture that not only embraces and dresses the building but also summarises the 150-year history of the collections and the work of the Museum of Ethnography, reflecting the spirit of its work in contemporary culture.
